Entry PlazaAs visitors arrive at the Franklin Park Conservatory, they pass through the Entry Plaza, a collection of garden displays that provide a grand welcome to all who pass through. The Entry Plaza serves as a both a place of beauty and a place to learn. Planting beds and containers continue the butterfly gardening theme as they are planted with nectar and caterpillar host plants. The entry plaza is also home to the winter interest garden, a collection of broadleaf evergreens, conifers, ornamental grasses, and fruiting shrubs, which provide a spectacular garden display even during the winter months. Stunning, ever-evolving annual color displays add the final layer of excitement to space. From spring-flowering bulbs in April to colorful chrysanthemums in September and even a holiday showcase in December, the entry plaza offers something new and exciting each and every season

Brides GardenThe Bride's garden is the breathtaking newest addition to the botanical gardens. After opening in August 2008 as part of Franklin Park Conservatory's Master Plan, this exquisite space has quickly become the prized jewel at the conservatory. Winding paths lead guests through formal evergreen hedges and under the heart-shaped leaves of the Redbud alleƩ before arriving on the main terrace. Detailed stonework and a bubbling fountain frame the gardens, which use white as the unifying color. Anemones usher in the spring while Blushing Bride Hydrangea, Stewartia, and Astilbe are in full bloom during the summer months. Visit the Bride's garden in the evening for perhaps the most unique experience. With views of the James Turrell's lighting exhibit in the Palm House and the conservatory's new rooftop garden, The Grove, the Bride's Garden becomes a tranquil refuge where architectural and horticultural beauty unite.

CascadesRushing waterfalls, unique plantings, and wildlife are found at the Cascades gardens. Found in the southwest corner of Franklin Park, visitors are drawn to the sights and sounds of this hidden oasis in the midst of our bustling metropolis. Native plantings grow along the banks of the rushing waterfalls that bridge the connection between the upper and lower lakes. Ninebark, Viburnum, and Northern Bayberry give structure to the beds while providing four-season interest. Native perennials such as Coneflower, Penstemon, and Blanket Flower as well as ornamental grasses such as Switchgrass are also found at the Cascades. All of these elements create an ideal habitat for wildlife to thrive. |
