Quick and Dirty Garden Woodworking
Keep busy this winter by completing a practical project. Work alongside Steve Bricker of the Conservatory staff in this three-part workshop and build quick and easy items for your garden. Advanced registration required prior to each class, phone 614.645.5863.
Saturday, February 6: Firewood Shelter, 1 - 4 p.m.
Saturday, March 6: Cold Frame, 1 - 4 p.m.
Saturday, April 3: Potting Bench, 1 - 4 p.m.
Cost each session: $190 Members; $200 Non-members

Orchid “Facelift”
Have an orchid that has seen better days? Learn to improve its appearance and overall health at this demonstration/workshop. Each participant is encouraged to bring in 2 or 3 plants. An instructor will evaluate them and demonstrate steps to help your plants “feel better.”

Home Brewing Root Beer and Ginger Ale
Put a modern twist on two of America’s favorite soft drinks. Steve Bricker of the Conservatory staff will teach you how to brew your own root beer and ginger ale. Sample the results at the end of the class.

Xeriscaping
Learn the basic principles of xeriscape, the practice of gardening with drought and heat tolerant, native plants. Participants will learn the essential horticultural practices and gain an understanding of basic xeriscape design principles. A sound garden design choice for the environmentally conscious gardener, xeriscape greatly reduces water use, benefits your wallet, and promotes Ohio native plants. Participants in the class will receive literature on suggested plant selections.

Home Grown: Seed Starting Tools and Tricks
Get a head start on Mother Nature and lean the tricks of the seed starting trade with Conservatory staff member Steve Bricker. Find out what equipment and supplies are needed to start your own seeds, cultivate them, and, when planting time arrives, transfer them to the garden. Participants will leave the demonstration with a flat of planted seeds to nurture at home. Register in advance by March 2, phone 614-645-5863.

Children and Your Garden
Involving children in the garden is a fantastic experience for the entire family. With Conservatory Horticulturist Amanda Bettin, learn how to create a backyard garden that is beautiful and fun for the little ones. Find out how to encourage children to grow their own plants and create garden projects.

Beyond Boxwood and Begonias
Say goodbye to the old standards! Conservatory Horticulturist Amanda Bettin introduces you to underutilized plants that will make your garden unique and low maintenance. Learn about plant substitutions that can be used in place of the landscape industry’s most overused plants.
