Beginning in September, we will offer a six-week Interpreter Training Class
that will prepare volunteers to lead groups of visitors through the Fiori
exhibition. We’ve also added a volunteer greeter position that works within
our Visitor Services department. Greeters will welcome visitors, answer our
visitor information phone line, and sell memberships at our front door and
tour entrance kiosks.

Looking for a way to share your enthusiasm for the Conservatory while using
your people skills? Join the Conservatory’s team of volunteer Interpreters!
Learn all about the Conservatory’s plant collections and special
exhibitions, and practice informal-learning techniques that will help you
share your knowledge with guests and enhance their visitor experience.
The six-week intensive course will cover:
· FPC’s mission, history, vision and values
· Basic Botany & the Plant Collections
· Blooms & Butterflies & the fall exhibition: The Enchanted Express
· Annual & permanent exhibitions
· Customer Service & the Informal Learning Environment
Graduates of the course shadow two tours with veteran interpreters before
taking off on their own. Monthly Interpreter meetings take place every third
Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m., each with a different educational focus for
continued learning throughout the year.
All prospective interpreters must schedule and complete an interview with the volenteer coordinator prior to taking the course.
