Join us for this unique experience learning how to sculpt super strong & durable walls made of simple clay soil! We’ll build with clay, stones, and glass bottles to sculpt a unique climbing wall for a whimsical playhouse in the Scotts Miracle-Gro Foundation Children’s Garden. You’ll learn to build sculptural wall forms using cob…a mixture of clay, sand, and straw. We’ll add playful elements, like glass bottles to capture diffused light. You’ll also learn to make a clay plaster used to shape wall surfaces and create relief sculptures.
Friday, April 20: Begin with an overview of cob construction, followed by learning to test soil, mix the cob, and plenty of hands-on experience
Saturday, April 21: Learn to install bottles into cob and continue cob wall building skills
Sunday, April 22: Learn to make a versatile clay plaster that can be applied thickly and used to shape/sculpt wall surfaces
Sigi teaches the physics behind why natural building works. Everyone gains hands-on experience with ample one-on-one guidance throughout the weekend.
