This is a virtual class taught in real-time by master gardener, Kathy Smith.
There are many ways to approach tree identification and this class will cover a few methods of doing so. It will also highlight key tree characteristics that provide clues to be used for identification.
Instructor: Kathy L. SmithKathy has a BS in Forest Resource Management and an MS in Natural Resource Management from The Ohio State University. She worked as a watershed forester for 11 years at the Ohio Division of Forestry in west-central Ohio covering 10 counties. She came to Ohio State University Extension in 2001 to oversee and expand the private woodland owner education program – Ohio Woodland Stewards. The program promotes educational outreach for private woodland owners across the state.
She is a member of the Gwynne Conservation Area Committee that oversees the Gwynne and its programming for Farm Science Review. She is heavily involved with the statewide outreach effort dealing with invasive species and their impacts on Ohio’s forests. She is also part of the team that has installed and is operating a sugarbush on the OSU Mansfield campus.
