Instructor: James Novotny James Novotny, CFD is a visual and cultural arts historian and Certified Floral Designer. While he has been designing floral for retail shops and event studios since 2009, he received his Certified Floral Designer (CFD) designation from The American Institute of Floral Designers in 2020 after completing his formal education at the Floral Design Institute in Portland, Oregon. Novotny holds a degree in Arts History and Visual Culture from Lindenwood University and a degree in Hospitality and Tourism from Sinclair College. Believing in education and giving back, Novotny has written on topics of history, art, weddings, and floristry for various publications including Victoria Magazine, The Knot, Ohio Magazine, and more. He is also an active member of the Columbus community, where he is part of several volunteer organizations one of which is the Columbus Museum of Art’s biannual floral arts exhibition, Art in Bloom of which he is a programming coordinator and design participant. James is currently a part of the Franklin Park Conservatory education team, a program coordinator at the Kelton House Museum & Garden, and a florist in Westerville, Ohio.
