Watercolor: Summer Gardens

Capture the colors of summer with your paintbrush. Explore watercolor techniques and colorful palettes as we paint a new flower each week, including zinnias, hydrangea, honeysuckle and more!

Led by artist Mindy Newman.

Four-Week Series: Saturdays, July 6, 13, 20 & 27, 1–3pm

Class Schedule:

Saturday, July 6, 1–3pm
Zinnias are not only beautiful, but also attract hummingbirds and monarch butterflies to the garden. This class includes quick sketching and painting sessions to loosen up, as well as a more detailed painting time. Open to all levels of experience.

Saturday, July 13, 1–3pm
While larkspur comes in many colors, we will challenge ourselves and limit the palette to only three colors. Prints and demonstrations will be available. Learn specifically how to apply thin washes of paint.
Fun fact: Larkspur is a poisonous plant, but can also be used for respiratory problems.

Saturday, July 20, 1–3pm
In this class, we will explore using the white of the paper to create the creamy white petals of the hydrangea. Mindy will provide drawing demonstrations and prints of hydrangeas.

Saturday, July 27, 1–3pm
Using pale greens and light purples, learn how to paint honeysuckles in mirco close-up. Add contrasting splashes of yellow to render sunlight.
