The Pool

11-16-2019 01-04-2020 5pm–9pm every evening

New for 2019, the light experience expands into the Grand Mallway. The star of the space is The Pool, an interactive environment by artist Jen Lewin. Visitors can interact with a giant ring of circular pads that change colors with movement and pressure. On the opposite side of the Mallway, Light Raiment II by James Turrell continues to illuminate the John F. Wolfe Palm House, performing a continuously morphing color palette from dusk until dawn.

The Pool is an interactive environment where movement creates swirling light and color. Users play on concentric rings of circular pads that communicate with each other. As users shift their weight or move from one pad to another, their motions are reflected on pads with color and movement. As multiple users play in the pool, their interactions become mesmerizing patterns of shifting and fading colors.

ABOUT JEN LEWIN

Focusing on pieces made for public use, she thinks beyond a traditional art exhibition to create an experience that brings vibrancy to neighborhoods, parks, and public spaces.
Her works have been featured at events including Vivid Sydney, iLight Marina Bay, Signal Fest and Burning Man, art Biennials in Denver, Colorado and Gwangju, South Korea and solo exhibitions in the United States, Portugal, and England.
