Math in Bloom presents Pi Day (3.14)

Join us on 3.14 to learn about the most famous digit in all of mathematics- pi! Discover how the concept of pi can be found in nature at the Conservatory, and how it has proved itself as the motivation for artists, filmmakers, educators and more throughout history. Become inspired by pi with a fruit tree giveaway (while supplies last) so you can grow your own pie filling at home, complete a scavenger hunt full of fun facts, educational stations for all ages, and artist demos throughout our grounds!

Schedule of events:

Pi Day Scavenger Hunt & Blackberry Shrub Giveaway! Stop by the scavenger hunt table to grab your passport, and collect stamps as you walk through the Conservatory. Collect at least 5 out of 10 stamps and redeem it for a bare root fruit tree to take home! Find all 10 stamp stations and enter a raffle to win 2 general admission tickets to the Conservatory. Blackberry plants are while supplies last, but enjoy the scavenger hunt all day long.
Community Art Project Join artist Lance Johnson and Megan Evans to create a collaborative community artwork inspired by nature, circles, and Pi that will hang on the walls of the Conservatory through April.
Watercolor Education Stations Stop by several education stations in the Grand Atrium to learn more about the concept of Pi and how it connects to nature. Get your hands dirty with a craft that shows how trees grow over time, learn about the most efficient shape (hint: it's related to pi), and think about how patterns reflect in nature over and over again!
Photo Contest Grab a circular viewfinder before hitting the trails and take pictures of circles and patterns that inspire you throughout your visit! Post your photos on social media with the hashtag #PiDayAtFPC to enter to win 4 general admission tickets!
Sound Bowl Meditation Starting at 1pm with 3- 20 minute sessions in the Garden Pavilion, relax into the rhythms of nature in this sound bowl meditation led by Jess Erb and inspired by Math in Bloom. Explore how vibration and frequency shape both music and the natural world. A calming, sensory experience that connects mindfulness, music, and the beauty of mathematics in nature.
