Agave americana “Century Plant”

An extraordinary bloom is unfolding at the Conservatory! In early March 2026, our Agave americana—commonly known as the Century Plant—began its rare flowering process in the Desert Biome.

This moment is especially remarkable because once the plant finishes blooming, it will gradually decline and eventually die, requiring removal. Over the coming months, its towering flower stalk will continue to grow and transform.

Don’t miss your chance to witness this once-in-a-lifetime bloom before it’s gone! Be sure to follow us on social media on Facebook and Instagram for the most up-to-date progress.

May 14, 2026 update:

The buds on our Agave “Century Plant” are still growing strong! We are anticipating that the buds will start flowering in the next several weeks.
