The Communal Garden: Garden Like A Forest

Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio. The Communal Garden classes are made possible by support from a grateful gardener.

What if the best gardening teacher has been growing around us all along? Forests build healthy soil, make the most of sunlight, hold water, support living communities, and grow stronger over time. In this class, we’ll explore how forests work and how to use those same ideas in your own food garden. You’ll learn practical ways to improve soil, choose plants that work well together, and build a garden that grows more productive and resilient over time.
