Butterflies in Watercolor

The beloved Blooms & Butterflies exhibit opens for the season on February 21, 2026! What better way to celebrate than by creating a watercolor painting to capture your visit with the butterflies? Start of class with a walk through our Pacific Island Biome to see the butterflies, and don’t forget your phone to take an inspo pic!

Back in the classroom, you’ll learn watercolor basics: brush control, layering, color mixing, and techniques through demonstrations, exercises, and one-on-one feedback from the instructor. You will leave class with your own finished painting portraying the vibrant tropical butterflies, and confidence in your skills as a watercolor artist!

All supplies are included. All levels welcome- perfect for anyone looking to learn watercolor fundamentals while creating a beautiful seasonal painting.

Instructor: Miriam Baranov Miriam Baranov is an internationally recognized, published artist specializing in classical realism. She trained extensively in Old Master techniques through renowned apprenticeships in the U.S. and Florence, Italy.

Based in Columbus, Ohio, she balances teaching and creating, with a focus on portraiture and nature—landscapes, trees, and botanicals. A dedicated educator, she shares her expertise in traditional techniques, helping students master realism with depth and precision.

At Franklin Park Conservatory, Miriam leads an immersive study of botanical art, exploring the beauty of nature through a classical approach.
