The Communal Garden: Season Extension

Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio. The Communal Garden classes are made possible by support from a grateful gardener.

Extend your growing season! Colder temperatures doesn’t mean you stop growing- you just have to have the right tools. In this class, you will learn what you can do to make your growing season last longer, from low tunnels to mulching and hoop houses to row covers. We’ll also cover temperature moderation and cultivar selection so you can choose plants that will thrive in the extended growing season. There are many benefits to extending your growing season, including higher yields and pest prevention! Class will include a demonstration on building a cold frame for your garden beds.
