Growing to Green Partners with Green Grid Leadership Academy

Posted: August 04, 2026

This summer, Growing to Green teamed up with the Green Grid Leadership Academy, a youth urban gardening initiative created by Dennis Gullick IV of the Legacies United Foundation. The program brings local youth together to build practical skill sets around food production, sustainability, and community leadership.

As part of the initiative, Growing to Green hosted 4 hands-on educational workshops at the garden. Each week, our team worked outdoors with 40 campers, ages 8–18, covering fundamental concepts in urban agriculture, including soil health, composting, water conservation, native plants, pests, and local ecosystems.

Beyond the technical skills, the workshops gave our team the opportunity to connect with the campers directly. Seeing youth actively engage in supporting their community garden and gain a practical understanding of local food systems was a highlight of the season.

We appreciate the work Dennis and the Legacies United Foundation are doing in Columbus, and we’re glad to support their mission of building sustainable, food-secure neighborhoods.
