Sogetsu Ikebana is the art of Japanese floral arranging- creating simple but powerful arrangements, and encouraging creative expression through floral patterns.  Columbus Sogetsu Ikebana instructor, Michelle Rogers, will walk you through the fundamental concepts of Sogetsu and guide you in creating a simple but stunning arrangement that exemplifies Sogetsu- the ability for anyone to arrange flowers any time, anywhere, with any materials. This class is perfect for all students from beginners to Sogetsu enthusiasts alike, and all students will leave with an arrangement that highlights the sculptural nature of Sogetsu Ikebana and is inspired by the changing seasons.

All materials will be provided, and students will leave the class with a shallow container, kenzan, and their arrangement. It is suggested to bring a box or container to transport your work home. Final product may differ from image shown.

Instructor: Michelle Rogers Michelle Rogers has been a student and teacher of Sogetsu ikebana for over 20 years. She teaches individuals working toward certification and also conducts workshops for larger groups. Michelle is a member of Ikebana International Chapter 84 and the Sogetsu School, Columbus Branch. She has served in various positions of the boards for each of these organizations. Michelle’s passions lie in her desire to teach others about ikebana and to inspire creativity within the individual. She also hopes that all of her students will find arranging flowers to be a practice of ‘being present’ and a type of meditative art.
