History of the Persimmon Tree

Published August 30, 2022

Did you know that the Conservatory has a very special persimmon tree in our Bonsai Courtyard? Since 1996, our friends at the Kaki Tree Project have been distributing saplings taken from a mother kaki tree which miraculously survived the 1945 atomic bombing in Nagasaki. Our tree is one of more than 300 such trees in 25 countries all over the world, connecting the Conservatory to an international community of peace and preserving an important part of history.
