Natural Dye Workshop with Elena Osterwalder

This is a hands-on class led by artist, Elena Osterwalder.

Become inspired by the work of Elena Osterwalder and her gallery exhibition El Color – ES, and follow her instruction to create your own hand-dyed paper tile. Participants will observe the process of boiling and creating botanical dye, then create their work by pouring dyes onto the paper.

The dyes are made from natural materials, and the art develops on its own as the dyes change as they are poured. The result is stunning color and design in organic patterns. Participants will then tour El Color – ES with the artist while their work dries.

Please bring a flat box or container to transport your work and a bottle of dye with you.

If necessary, please check your spam folder for communications about this class.

Instructor: Elena Osterwalder "I was born in Mexico. In my work, I use pre-hispanic colors and paper to make contemporary installations, with these materials I bring forward the history and culture of the Pre-Hispanic civilization. My work has been exhibited in the United States, Europe and China."
