Blooms and Bubbles: Orchid Watercolor

Get into the spirit of the season, and experience our Orchid collection like you never have before! Walk through the biomes to view our orchid collection on display and become inspired, then head back to the classroom to sip on a glass of bubbly & create a detailed watercolor painting.

While painting, through short demos and guided exercises, you’ll build confidence and learn how to capture the delicate texture of flowers. In the second half of class, you’ll put your skills together and create your orchid painting. The instructor will provide one-on-one feedback, demonstrations, and tips to help bring your piece to life.

All supplies are included. All levels welcome- perfect for anyone looking to learn watercolor fundamentals while creating a beautiful seasonal painting.

The Conservatory: From Roots to Blooms The Cardinal Health Gallery features an interactive exhibit that introduces guests to the North Star Master Plan — a bold vision for the future of the Conservatory. Through immersive displays and digital interactives, guests are invited to journey through the Conservatory’s past, engage with its dynamic present, and explore the exciting plans that will shape its next chapter.

This exhibit offers a chance to reflect on personal memories made at the Conservatory and to share feedback on the proposed transformation.

A highlight of the exhibition is a striking mural by Columbus-based artist Shelbi Toone, inspired by the Gardens Forward philosophy at the heart of the North Star Master Plan.

Honoring Nancy Cullman through Blooms & Butterflies View Result
Harvest Blooms Returning this fall, the Conservatory’s Botanical Garden will be transformed with thousands of pumpkins, mums, ornamental cabbages, and more—creating a vibrant seasonal display. Guests can explore two charming pumpkin houses, a larger-than-life overflowing cornucopia, and two whimsical “trees” adorned with pumpkins and colorful autumn foliage. It’s a magical celebration of the fall season you won’t want to miss.

Harvest Blooms is included in General Admission and admission to Pumpkins Aglow, which is a Special Engagement on select evenings in October requiring separate tickets.

This fresh and enchanting botanical experience is where color takes center stage. A serene woodland garden is your tranquil prelude to the vibrant displays beyond. Each alcove unveils a bold and immersive holiday palette: rich reds, icy blues, dazzling pinks, and bright citrus tones, all of which were carefully designed to captivate and inspire. More than a thousand poinsettias, grown in ten unique varieties, harmonize with an array of tropical and seasonal accent plants, creating breathtaking compositions.

Please note: The Conservatory will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Step into the Conservatory at the height of spring blooms for the garden party of the season! Sip sparkling wine and bubbly samples from local wineries and wine shops and enjoy the ambiance set by a live acoustic duo while you explore the Conservatory’s beautiful floral displays. Gather your friends for this sophisticated night of blooms and bubbly! 

  • Cocktails at the Conservatory events are 5:30-9:30pm and strictly 21+. Infants and toddlers are not permitted. IDs will be checked at the door. All guests are required to show valid, physical ID – regardless of age. Photos of ID are not permitted.
  • All guests, including all member levels and Monarchs, must reserve tickets in advance. A limited amount of tickets will be available at the door.

Fragrant Hearts: Valentine’s Floral Design

Celebrate love in all its forms at our Valentine’s Floral Design Class: a creative evening filled with flowers, food, wine, and good company. Learn the basics of floral design while creating a stunning blush and pink arrangement in a full 360°, all-around style, featuring fragrant flowers like mint, lavender, stock, freesia, and sweet pea, and discover how fragrance can enhance floral design.

The Language of Flowers

A language as old as time! In the 19th century, Victorians used floriography to send messages of love, friendship, and even rejection, through carefully chosen blooms. Join Sheena Hanscel, owner of Phoenix Rising Wellness Coaching and The Pollen Patch, to explore the folklore and symbolism behind flowers and traditional “love potions.” Learn how a plant’s physical characteristics can reveal its herbal properties, then create your own custom herbal tea blend to take home.

Conservatory Aglow This season, the Conservatory sparkles with dazzling new displays indoors and out. Stroll through thousands of lights, from a whimsical penguin village and glowing boxwood house to a life-sized Candyland board game and projected winter scenes. The Ahlum & Arbor Arctic Terrace expands with more games like curling!

In addition, new rentable igloos with food and drinks will be available to reserve in the Bonsai Courtyard.

Returning favorites include the 100-foot light tunnel, ornament tree with 1,400 ornaments, a lively Dance Party and eight glowing igloos filled with seasonal fun.

Come explore the magic—indoors and out—and see the Conservatory in a whole new light.

Please note: The Conservatory will be closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On December 4, Conservatory Aglow will be closed for a Cocktails at the Conservatory event.

Painting Butterflies From Life

Draw butterflies from life inside our exhibit, Blooms & Butterflies! Join Fine Artist Miriam Baranov as you create a vibrant butterfly watercolor, inspired by life. This all-levels workshop which takes place in our biome and the classroom will teach you essential techniques while inspiring creativity.

All supplies for this class are included, just bring your creativity!

Class Highlights:
-Spend some time in the Pacific Island biome, sketching your drawings. After sketching butterflies from life, we will continue working on your art piece in the classroom and finish a painting with watercolor
-Master watercolor basics: brushstrokes, layering, and color theory
-Miriam will demo various techniques and students will have the opportunity to follow along, before applying these concepts to complete a final painting

The Communal Garden: Cut Flower Gardening

This is a community gardening class taught by the Conservatory’s Community Education Manager, Cindy Maravich. Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio.

Learn to grow a cut flower garden to brighten your home and yard. Discover how to cultivate long-lasting flowers, discuss plant conditioning methods, and how to create durable arrangements for yourself and friends. Join us for a guided walk in the second half of the class to explore current blooms on the Community Garden Campus.

Through The Vines: A Seasonal Journey A site-specific installation created by the artists at Applied Imagination will invite guests to explore the lights, sights, and sounds of the four seasons with a series of vine arches made of natural plant materials. Cheery Cherry Blossoms in Watercolor (Daytime)

This is a painting class led by fine artist, Miriam Baranov.

Spring brings to mind visions of blooms all around, and what tree is more iconic for its spring blooms than the Japanese Cherry Tree? Join fine artist Miriam Baranov as she guides you through the basic techniques of watercolor, and you will create a vibrant watercolor painting of fluffy pink cherry blossoms blooming against the backdrop of a bright blue spring sky. The class kicks off with an hour dedicated to hands-on learning watercolor fundamentals, covering tips, setup techniques, and viewing demonstrations on painting the subject matter, color matching, and creating color studies. Students can follow along, receiving critiques and having their questions answered.

In the second hour, students have the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned by completing their own painting. Choose from a selection of photo references, combining the class concepts to craft a final study.

Butterflies in Watercolor

The beloved Blooms & Butterflies exhibit opens for the season on February 21, 2026! What better way to celebrate than by creating a watercolor painting to capture your visit with the butterflies? Start of class with a walk through our Pacific Island Biome to see the butterflies, and don’t forget your phone to take an inspo pic!

Back in the classroom, you’ll learn watercolor basics: brush control, layering, color mixing, and techniques through demonstrations, exercises, and one-on-one feedback from the instructor. This is a hands-on floral design class led by Alexis Lorentzen.

Join Alexis Lorentzen of Botanical Blooms for a hands-on workshop and master course in flower arranging! In this class, participants will create a Valentine’s Day Bouquet from a unique and seasonal mix of flowers. Learn about the basics of prepping your flowers for the most longevity of your bouquet, color selection, the types of flowers available during this winter season, and how to achieve a balanced design.

Participants will end the class by wrapping their bouquet in festive paper and hand tying with ribbon to take home.

Wedding Showcase

Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is thrilled to announce the return of our Wedding Showcase on January 24 from 6-9pm. The Wedding Showcase is a unique opportunity for couples to meet select vendors while enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres, bubbly samples, cakes and cocktails.

The Wedding Showcase is also a special chance to experience the Conservatory’s distinctive spaces at night. From the rustic-meets-refined Wells Barn to the tropical and historic John F. Wolfe Palm House, guests will take in each venue’s unique aesthetic.

From photographers to event planners, the Conservatory has experience with hundreds of vendors and has curated a selection of top professionals for the Wedding Showcase. These vendors include caterers, florists, photographers, DJs, wedding planners, cake designers, event rental companies, tuxedo rental professionals, and photo booths.
