Experience the colorful magic of Columbus Blooms with a watercolor class celebrating the bright colors of spring bulbs! Class will begin with a walk through the Conservatory grounds to view our gardens and gain some inspiration, and weather pending, an outdoor painting demonstration.

Back in the classroom, you’ll learn watercolor basics: brush control, layering, color mixing, and techniques through demonstrations, excercises, and one-on-one feedback from the instructor. You will leave class with your own finished painting portaying a collection of bright spring flowers, and confidence in your skills as a watercolor artist!

Blooms and Bubbles: Orchid Watercolor

Get into the spirit of the season, and experience our Orchid collection like you never have before! Walk through the biomes to view our orchid collection on display and become inspired, then head back to the classroom to sip on a glass of bubbly & create a detailed watercolor painting.

While painting, through short demos and guided exercises, you’ll build confidence and learn how to capture the delicate texture of flowers. In the second half of class, you’ll put your skills together and create your orchid painting. The instructor will provide one-on-one feedback, demonstrations, and tips to help bring your piece to life.

Columbus Blooms A dazzling celebration of spring! More than 140,000 tulips, daffodils, and pansies throughout the gardens and container displays combine with stars of the botanical garden. Magnolias, lilacs, cherries, viburnum, and thousands of perennials bring an exciting burst of scents and colors after a long winter slumber.

Plants bloom throughout the season starting in March and continuing through the following months.

Blooms & Butterflies Experience Blooms & Butterflies in the Pacific Island Water Garden, where exotic butterflies glide through bright nectar flowers. As you wander the garden, you’ll see butterflies feeding, resting, and gliding through the air in an ever-changing display of color and movement. Spring has sprung at Franklin Park Conservatory! Fly with the butterflies and watch as flowers bloom across the gardens as we celebrate the renewal of spring! Experience this exclusive Girl Scout event with new friends as we learn about the magic of spring blooms and butterflies!

Most appropriate for Daises and Brownies, but families are welcome! Participants will be provided with a picnic-style meal. This is included in the admission price.

All Girl Scout participants will receive a Franklin Park Conservatory patch as a special memento!

Spring Flowers Walk & Talk

They say April showers bring May flowers! Join us for a guided walk through the park to discover Ohio’s spring wildflowers. We’ll begin with a short introduction to common native species you’re likely to see along walking trails, and learn a few key tips for identifying them. Then we’ll head outside to identify flowers in nature, stopping along the way to look closely at the blooms. Along the walk, we’ll talk about the role these early wildflowers play in forest ecosystems and the pollinators that depend on them.

Coffee at the Conservatory

Celebrate the beauty of a spring morning with Coffee at the Conservatory, a special ticketed event at the Wells Barn at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Wander through the gardens as they come alive with fresh blooms and morning light, all while sampling exceptional coffees from local roasters. Enjoy a peaceful, wellness-inspired atmosphere featuring local vendors and entertainment. This adults-only experience is the perfect way to connect with friends, savor the flavors of the season, and ease into the day surrounded by nature. This event is rain or shine! 

  • Coffee at the Conservatory is 10am-1:30pm and strictly 18+. Infants and toddlers are not permitted. IDs will be checked if planning to purchase alcohol. All guests are required to show valid, physical ID – regardless of age. Photos of ID are not permitted.
  • All guests, including all member levels and Monarchs, must reserve tickets in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the door and may sell out leading up to the event.

Spring Flair: Fascinator Hats

Step into spring style with this hands-on fascinator hat workshop- just in time for Hat Day and the Kentucky Derby! Participants will design and create their own wearable fascinator, adorned with seasonal motifs such as butterflies, blooms, and other spring-inspired embellishments while sipping on a Mimosa. After a demonstration from the instructor, complete your hat while working at your own pace and learning basic techniques to craft this unique accessory perfect for upcoming celebrations and outdoor events. Forced Bulb Planter

Bring fragrance and beauty into your home by creating a planter filled with forced spring bulbs! Forced bulbs are spring-flowering bulbs that have been given a period of cold to encourage blooming at an unexpected time of year.

In this workshop, you’ll use seasonal bulbs already in bloom to design a container display suitable for indoors or outdoors. Using a sturdy industrial-style metal tub (perfect to repurpose later in your garden!), you’ll arrange a mix of colorful spring blooms and moss to create a living planter that brings joy and color to the rest of the spring. Throughout class, you will also learn how to force your own bulbs, and how to plant & store bulbs in your own yard.

Fused Glass Flower Pocket

Spring has sprung! At least, in the form of fused glass. In this hands-on workshop, local artist Meg Beech will guide you as you create a colorful flower pocket out of glass to hang on your wall to display spring blooms. She will walk you step by step as you cut glass, design your composition, and stack pieces that will fuse to create your own design. All supplies are included, and after class, Meg will fire your piece in the kiln so it’s ready to brighten your space. 

Finished pieces can be picked up at the Conservatory front desk a few days later or shipped to you for an additional cost.

2026 Cocktails at the Conservatory – Petals & Prosecco

Step into the Conservatory at the height of spring blooms for the garden party of the season! Sip sparkling wine and bubbly samples from local wineries and wine shops and enjoy the ambiance set by a live acoustic duo while you explore the Conservatory’s beautiful floral displays. Gather your friends for this sophisticated night of blooms and bubbly!

Join Sheena Hanscel, owner of Phoenix Rising Wellness Coaching and The Pollen Patch, to explore the folklore and symbolism behind flowers and traditional “love potions.” Learn how a plant’s physical characteristics can reveal its herbal properties, then create your own custom herbal tea blend to take home.

Stained Glass: Blue Morpho

Spring is the time to think about butterflies! In this hands on workshop, you will recreate the iconic Blue Morpho butterfly out of stainedd glass in this beginner-friendly workshop. Throughout class, Kara of Good Dea Glass Co will guide you step by step as you cut, grind, and solder sheet glass using the copper foil method. You’ll leave with a finished piece to display, along with the skills to keep exploring stained glass. After class, be sure to visit our Blooms & Butterflies exhibition!

Must be 12+ to participate, designed with adults in mind.

The Communal Garden: Cut Flower Gardening

Classes in The Communal Garden series teach gardeners skills that can be used in community gardens or to support their community through gardening. They are low-cost in an effort to advance gardening skills in our communities. The series is a part of the Conservatory’s Growing to Green program, which supports and develops community gardens across Central Ohio.

Are you a plant lover or garden enthusiast who would like to add growing cut flowers to your garden repertoire but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’d like to grow flowers instead of grass in order to attract pollinators? Whatever your flower dream is, let’s dig in and start here! This class will provide you with the basic foundations of growing a cut flower garden, which includes planning, choosing the right varieties, succession planting for continuous blooms, maintenance, harvesting and post harvest care for making bouquets. Whatever your horticulture experience level is, you’ll gain confidence in your decision making, and before you know it, you’ll be slinging flowers and sharing their beauty with others.
